What does a Laser Hair Removal treatment feel like?

Optimizing patient comfort and safety is extremely important, this is why Dermacare has invested in the most advanced lasers and innovative cooling air systems available. During the treatment, the actual laser handpiece cools and soothes the skin, plus an additional cooling air system is available to the patient for even greater comfort. Some patients have described the sensation during treatment as mild pinching or stinging as a small pulse of light from the laser is delivered. No topical anesthesia or pain medication is typically required.

What should I expect after the treatment?

The patient may experience mild redness or swelling immediately following treatment. Most of the hair targeted by the laser will shed 7 to 10 days post-treatment. The patient should not wax or tweeze between treatments, but shaving is allowed.

Who can be treated?

Dermacare’s lasers are designed to treat all skin types, from light to dark, for both men and woman. To determine if you are a candidate for laser hair removal treatments you will need to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dermacare of Gainesville to review individual dermatological factors such as skin type, hair color, hair thickness, the location of the hair, and medical history.

How many treatments are necessary?

Most patients will need an average of 5-7 treatments. However, the amount of treatments necessary in order to achieve optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors: hair growth cycle, hormones, medications, etc. Not all the hairs are growing at the same time as they go through three phases: growth, regression, and resting. Laser hair removal treatment plans are designed to disable the hairs that are mainly in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since the individual hairs enter the active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary.
