What is Sclerotherapy?
For many years sclerotherapy has been a cornerstone in the successful treatment of superficial leg veins. The technique was developed over 75 years ago and is still one of the most frequently used treatments to address unsightly spider veins. During the treatment, a sclerosing agent is injected into the vein through an ultra-fine needle. The solution causes irritation and corrosion to the walls of the vessels.

What should I expect after a sclerotherapy treatment?
After treatment, the natural healing process begins resulting in the decomposition and shrinking of the targeted veins, causing them to eventually disappear. Mild redness and swelling of the injection sites are common, and often resolve within 24 to 48 hours. Most patients notice dramatic improvement in the appearance of leg veins.
How many treatments will it take?
For most patients, one laser vein treatment followed by two sclerotherapy treatments is needed to achieve optimal results. Sclerotherapy treatments typically start one week after the initial laser vein treatment, and resume one month after the first sclerotherapy treatment. As the veins gradually disappear results are typically seen 1 to 4 months after the final treatment. Depending on the number of treatment sites several treatments may be required to achieve maximum results. It is recommended to have a yearly sclerotherapy treatment to maintain the desired results.
