Laser Vein Removal

What is Laser Vein Removal?

Laser vein removal is a treatment by which the hemoglobin in the targeted blood vessel absorbs a concentrated beam of light causing the vessel to be destroyed. For the optimal results in the treatment of leg veins Dermacare uses a combination of laser vein removal with traditional sclerotherapy Dermacare offers laser vein removal for both the face and body.

What happens during a Laser Vein Removal treatment?

The laser heats the blood within the targeted vein causing coagulation and destruction of the vein. The vein is reabsorbed by the body and blood flow is redirected to appropriate deeper veins beneath the skin’s surface. Some patients have described the sensation during treatment as a mild stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered, but most find the treatment very tolerable.

What should I expect after a Laser Vein Removal treatment?

The majority of patients notice their veins have shown significant improvement within 2 to 6 weeks following treatment. However, the ultimate desired results may not be obvious for several months. The medical professional performing the treatment may recommend compression stockings to be worn post-treatment. The duration of wearing the stockings depends on a number of factors, but usually does not exceed a two week period. Common temporary side effects of the treatment are mild redness and swelling of the skin. These side effects will typically resolve within 24 hours.

Who can be treated?

Laser Vein Removal is ideal for patients with light to medium skin types, although all skin types
can be safely treated.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically only 1 to 2 treatments are necessary. A treatment plan will be customized to fit each patient’s needs depending on the number, color, and size of the veins treated. For the treatment of leg veins Dermacare often recommends combining a laser vein removal treatment with 2 sclerotherapy sessions to thoroughly treat the remaining superficial spider veins.
